All About Those Apps

Brain snack time.  Did you know the average American:

  • Spends 4-6 hours of leisure time per day (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
  • Checks their phone between 110 and 150 times per day (Buzzfeed and Meeker)
  • Often thinks their phone is ringing, even when it is not?  In one study, 89% of students reported this Phantom Vibration Syndrome, also known as "ringxiety." (Psychology Today)
  • Spends more than half of their total digital media time in mobile apps? (Comscore)

I think it's fair to say that by-and-large, apps are giving us MUCH better experiences than they were even a few years ago.  And companies like Groupon (with more than half of their business coming via mobile - Forbes) and Facebook (with remarkable growth in mobile ad monetization - Motley Fool) are learning the trick.  But it is still early days.  So what's next?

Not sure we are approaching the Singularity quite yet - but we're certainly trying to make more of our lives thanks to mobile innovation.
